1oz silver round coin Walking Liberty Commemorative Copy. A very interesting fine silver coin based on the Walking Liberty coin series from the era of the World Wars.
The obverse of the coin depicts Liberty walking in front of the rising sun and with over mountains behind. A wide band around the outside of the coin bears the legend “WALKING LIBERTY” above and “1916 – 1947” below. Just behind Walking Liberty are inscribed the words “In God We Trust and below her feet is date “1916”.
The reverse features an identical wide band with top statement “COMMEMORATIVE COPY” and below reads “ONE TROY OUNCE 999 SILVER”. The centre depicts a left wing facing perched eagle arched above words “United States Of America”, to right of eagle is “E Pluribus Unum” and “Half Dollar” is depicted below his feet.
This fine silver round design is interesting because it precisely replicates the legal tender of 1916 United States. The surrounding border on each side of the coin is a declaration that the round is a commemorative copy and not intended to be a counterfeit, thus bypassing counterfeiting laws. An ingenious way to re-issue a coin without falling foul of the current law.
Coin is in good condition with some tiny visible minting marks.
